Itinerary. Day One.

Setting off from the Julian Shrine on day one (having arrived the night before), the pilgrim group will walk first to Norwich Cathedral for an early mass, pilgrim blessing and a stamp, before starting the first leg of the journey. Transport home at the end of the day will give pilgrims an opportunity to find peace and quiet at the Julian Shrine, or enjoy a wander in the city of Norwich, before a pilgrim supper and shared compline service.

Day Two.

Day two starts with a service at St Julian’s Church, and after breakfast the group will be transported back to where they left off the previous day to begin the second leg of the walk. This ends in the village of Great Ryburgh where we will share a pilgrim supper together laid on by the welcoming local parish church before transport back to Norwich.

Day Three.

Returning back to where we left off, we start our final leg which culminates in the village of Little Walsingham, home to both the Anglican and Catholic Shrines of Our Lady, as well as the ruined medieval priory.  Pilgrims have the option when reaching the Catholic Shrine of Our Lady of following the ancient pilgrim custom of walking the final section barefoot to reach the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady, the so-called Holy Mile. In Walsingham we will join the community in the rite of Sprinkling, followed by time to explore the Shrine and village freely. Guests will then stay overnight in Walsingham, or return to Norwich either to stay at All Hallows for a final night, or head home directly.

Please note:  in July we are hosting a 4 day pilgrimage, splitting the 37-mile walk into four days rather than the usual three. This means walking fewer miles per day and will suit anyone who feels that up to 15 miles in a day is too far.

Prices from £435

To join us on this pilgrimage adventure, scroll down and complete the form below. We require a £50 deposit to secure a place, with the balance due 30 days before the pilgrimage begins.

PLEASE NOTE:

The route is a 37-mile path through the heart of Norfolk countryside with a wide variety of surfaces underfoot, including uneven ground, footpaths, bridleways, and quiet roads. Pilgrims must be fit enough to cope with the strain required, including walking up to 14 miles in a day at a moderate pace. Though Norfolk is generally fairly flat, good levels of fitness are recommended and we ask prospective pilgrims to use common sense when determining their ability to complete the journey.

Be prepared for British weather! Bring plenty of water with you each day, snacks if you require them, appropriate footwear, clothing, and any other gear you feel necessary to accomplish the walk.

Pilgrims are each responsible for their own welfare and expected to take due care when walking and enjoying the outdoors. The Julian Shrine accepts no responsibility for injuries that may occur en route.

We will make every effort to ensure pilgrims are comfortable with the pace and enjoy the journey, and in return we expect everyone to exercise common sense with their preparations and come ready for all weathers.

Finally: You will know your own limitations and needs better than anyone, and you are responsible for ensuring your own wellbeing. We are happy to offer advice and answer any questions you may have, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
